About us
Over twenty years in fish and seafood
Akvavitus is a wholesale trader of frozen fish, fish products, seafood and canned fish, based in Kaunas, Lithuania and trading since 2003. Our buyers are canneries, fish processors and wholesalers inside and outside the European Union.
We work directly with fishing, processing and canning companies in Morocco, Mauritania, Iceland, Norway, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Lithuania, China and Vietnam. That keeps the chain short and lets us build either a full container or a full truck load.
Besides trading, we analyse freezing technologies and projects, select equipment, take technological decisions related to fish processing and, together with our partners, develop packaging for frozen foodstuffs.

What we supply
The range splits into four groups. Fish is supplied headed and gutted with tail off (HGT), headed only, or whole round, frozen at sea or in a land factory. Grading and packaging are agreed for each order.

From enquiry to discharge
There are two ways we can deliver. Which one fits depends on where the buyer is and whether the goods need to sit in storage.
Straight from the country of production to the buyer
The load sails from the country of production directly to the buyer's port. It never enters Lithuania, so there is no transhipment and no storage cost. This suits buyers outside Lithuania.

Via Klaipėda with storage
The load is imported through the port of Klaipėda and kept in partner cold stores. From there it is released to buyers in parts. This suits buyers who want to commit to a larger volume but call it off gradually.

Surimi from sardinella
Together with our partners and Kaunas University of Technology we implemented surimi production from sardinella, a raw material previously considered unsuitable for this product.
Production is running and the recipe keeps being refined. Output at the current stage is already used in European Union countries.

What buyers ask most
What exactly do you supply?
Four groups. Frozen fish (sardinella, sardinella eba, sardine, horse mackerel, chub mackerel, Atlantic mackerel, herring, blue whiting, cod, pike-perch fillet), salmon by-products (brown meat, belly flaps, B-grade fillet, backbones, heads, off-cuts, trimmings), cod liver and roe, and canned fish. Also leerfish, bonito, cutlassfish, fish oil and surimi.
Where does the product come from?
Fishing regions are Morocco, Mauritania, Iceland, Norway and Kazakhstan. Canned fish is produced with partners in Ukraine, Morocco, Lithuania, China and Vietnam. We deal with producers directly, without additional intermediaries.
How is the fish trimmed?
Usually HGT, that is headed and gutted with the tail off. We also supply headed only and whole round. Pike-perch is supplied as glazed fillet in eight size grades.
Can you produce canned fish under our own label?
Yes. Recipe, packaging and label are agreed with the factories in Ukraine, Morocco, Lithuania, China and Vietnam. Volumes and lead times are confirmed in the quote.
Can you ship straight from the country of production to my port?
Yes. In that case the load does not enter Lithuania at all and sails directly from the loading port to you. For buyers outside Lithuania this is usually the cheapest route.
What is the minimum order quantity?
It depends on the product and the route. We normally work in full container or full truck loads. The exact quantity is confirmed in the quote.
What documents come with the shipment?
Health (veterinary) certificate, catch certificate, certificate of origin, export declaration or T1, invoice, packing list and bill of lading. Customs formalities are handled together with our customs broker.
Can you hold stock for us?
Yes. The load can be kept in partner cold stores in Klaipėda and released in parts on an agreed schedule.
Which languages do you work in?
We correspond and negotiate in English, Lithuanian and Russian. This website is available in eight languages and documents are issued in English.
